Daničle Lemieux graduated from Dawson College in 1979 with a degree in graphic design and, for twenty years, was a respected art director and commericial illustrator. She continued her studies at the Visual Art Centre in Westmount, Quebec, setting time aside between commercial assignments to hone her craft. Daničle has worked exclusively as an artist for the last ten years.
Wiith a bold, extraordinarily deft brushtroke, Lemieux instills a reverence
in the commonplace that recalls the seventeenth century Masters. Her pieces,
though grounded in a tradition made famous by such artists as Cezanne and
Fantin-Latour, possess an exciting contemporary outlook. The lighting creates
an alternatively dramatic and poetic experience.
Her choice of subjects - jars, ceramic bowls, milk jugs, delicately placed
peaches and pears - reflect their utility, their truth. Within the loosely
structured, classic triangle compositions rests an almost spiritual balance
of subject and palette. The works are never busy - the superfluous is edited
out, encouraging quiet contemplation.
