Alexandra Luke (1901-1967) Artist Biography
Alexandra Luke (1901-1967) was born in Montreal, Quebec and died in Oshawa, Ontario. She was a Canadian painter and a member of the Painters 11, the abstract expressionist movement that began in Toronto during the 1950s.
From 1952-1953, Luke organized what was known as the "Canadian Abstract Exhibition"; an exhibition which eventually lead to the creation of the group Painters 11. Luke exhibited with the Painters 11 in Montréal, New York and Toronto until the group's end in 1960.
