Sandra Hawkins is a dynamic independent visual and media artist working
experimentally across medium and disciplines. Based in Ottawa, her paintings,
photography, multi-media installations, videos and performance art are
shown across Canada and internationally. These works participate in the
ongoing aesthetic discussion on human identity, positioning, and perception,
A life-long learner, she also incorporates her love of world travel with
her international art research, exhibitions and festivals. As part of her
creative practice, she teaches and authors the acclaimed book: "The
Business of Art for Canadian Visual Artists". Ms. Hawkins is a 2005
Premiers Award Nominee, which recognizes her commitment and excellence
in the creative arts.
Ms. Hawkins holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts, magna cum laude, from Ottawa
University (1999), and a Certificate in Fine Arts from St. Lawrence College
(1997). Previous degrees include the Masters in Environmental Studies from
York University; and the Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Architecture
with post-graduate studies in Sociology of Culture and History from Carleton
University.
